Shooters!

WOW! there is a TON of shooting as part of the CMP Western Games & High Power Matches at Ben Avery in March! (mar 11 thru mar 20, two weekends)

https://thecmp.org/cmp-matches/western-cmp-highpower-cmp-games-matches/

They have pistol matches now separate shoots for .22, .45 and "service pistol" which includes a lot of 9mm's. They have fun shoots for .22 rifles and for M1 Carbines. Then they have many days of shoots for Garand-Springfield-Vintage-Modern-Military (GSM), this encompasses almost everything that is or ever was or even looks like a military rifle from the smokeless powder era of the 1890's to present (all at 200yd, standing and prone, slow fire and rapid fire), and a day of vintage sniper matches. You can enter multiple times and shoot a different rifle each time! Then they have several days of serious Camp Perry Style High Power Rifle (200, 300 & 600yd, standing, sitting, prone, slow fire and rapid fire). Oh, and M1 Garand Rifle Sales!

The GSM shoots are very beginner-friendly. 200yds is not hard since the target is a 13" black circle on a 6 foot square of cardboard. Its all electronic targets so you don't have to do pit service. The GSM shoots are 35 shots in about an hour so enter several of them for whatever rifles you have. There is even a new shooter clinic if you prefer in-person instruction before diving in to a "match".

Well, the last time I shot a Hi-Power match at Black Canyon was Washington’ Birthday way back in 96’, it appears since then Hi-Power matches have significantly improved. Back then the M1A versus AR-15 controversy was still raging. I was an M1A guy grumbling, “Why the hell do we still do this 2 and 8 round mag crap when the Garand hasn’t been an issued rifle since Kent State?”. I kinda thought if hi-power matches didn’t do something to become more interesting they were going to fade away. Apparently they did do something.

so come out and watch! this coming weekend especially sunday will be the old rifle matches all at 200yds. next weekend starting thursday, will be 4 days of modern High Power, AR's with scopes at 200-300-600 yds.

and there is still time to sign up I think!

Thanx but no. Even when I was actively involved to Hi-Power shooting I found the matches kinda boring unless you were pulling a trigger. If’n SVD’s were allowed in the vintage sniper matches (after all it is pretty old design albeit not Korean War) it might be fun to go. Have a good time :D
