I recently purchased a Cimarron Schofield in .45 Colt. Took it to the shooting range and test fired it.
I observed that every shot I fired sprayed something on my left cheek; felt like very small particles or flecks of a dustlike substance, perhaps copper shavings? My left cheek didn't bleed, but it was enough to annoy me. Good thing I was wearing protective goggles. I observed that the cylinder looked like it was sprayed with dark powder at the front of the cylinder and halfway thru.

Someone told me that perhaps the cylinder maybe out of timing. It locks up ok, albeit not very tight.
Has anyone had this issue?

Make sure 3 times that it is unloaded.
Cock the hammer and shine a bore light down the barrel. Look down to see if any of the cylinder wall edges are visible.
If you can see the edge of the cylinder in the barrel it'll spit lead, powder and gas badly.

What he said. When the chambers are not precisely lined up with the barrel, a bit of the bullet gets shaved off.

Thanks for all your responses! I took a look thru the brl with a torch (flashlight), but it was difficult to determine because the brl was dirty. I called Cimarron and they gave me a Warranty RA (return authorization) with a paid return label .
Nice of them. So I sent it to them. I hope to get it back soon, without it all being banged up. Sigh.

They'll make it right.
Please give us a follow-up report when you get it back.

Yes, I'll post the results of their repairs here. Their gunsmith received it last friday (3 days ago).
Many thanks!

Got a call around noon today with a Texas phone no. Almost rejected it but I remembered that I sent my Schofield to a Texas address only days before, so I answered the call. It was Lonnie A. from Texas Long Rifles, a designated gunsmith for Cimarron Firearms. He introduces himself and says "you sent your Schofield to me for repair and I have some bad news for you . . . I couldn't find anything wrong with your Schofield . . all the specs checked out, cylinder gap was right on, cylinder to brl alignment was perfect, forcing cone was perfect . . . etc." He says it's is just the way S&W designed it. His Schofield dies the same thing, except mine was better built. ?? I'm anxious to get my Schofield back and it should be here by Friday, I think.

If she's not misaligned then it might be the ammunition.
Never had a revolver do that unless it was misaligned.
That'd be my guess.

Am with you on that suspicion. I reload my own. I'll buy a box and test my Schofield with the factory ammo.
Thanks for your suggestion!
