ASU Police Chief Michael Thompson thinks it’s just a bad idea to have students walking around campus armed.

“I’m here to tell you from firsthand experience, university students make very poor decisions on a daily basis, on an hourly basis,” Thompson said.

If they’re that idiotic, maybe we shouldn’t just ban guns from college campuses. How about getting rid of sharp pointy pencils and forcing the students and staff to make do with crayons instead?

Hmm, I wonder what he thinks about 17yo joining the military then??? Interesting logic there for sure. Worse yet, those very same students become officers in the military.

Your comparison is tacos and apples. 17 year old privates in the US military cannot just walk up to the arms room, sign out a weapon, sign out ammunition, and then wander around the post or base as they please. In fact the ONLY service members who are allowed to carry loaded weapons all day long are military/security police. Now, that reality changes in a combat zone but when was the last time ISIS, Al Qaida, or the Taliban launched an offensive in Arizona? Truth is 17 year old year privates can’t do much of anything without the supervision and or permission of higher ranking service members others than go to the supply room and get a roll of toilet paper but and maybe a new mop head. If you really served in the US military as “that active duty 17yo.” you would know that.

It truly amazes me the nonsense the AZ legislators get revved up over. Since people like Wendy Rogers believe ANTIFA operatives are lurking behind every cactus in the state, and Arizona universities are rabid hot zones of CRT and progressive radicals, do they really want to allow armed left-wing radicals to carry guns on campus to inspire and recruit? After all, according to them, there are WAY more leftists on our college campuses than Oathkeeper types.

If they REALLY want to do something to help AZ gun owners change the law so that when an LEO pulls you over for allegedly driving one mile over the speed limit he/she is NOT allowed to ask you if you have firearms in your vehicle and unless they’re actually arresting you they can’t just remove them all from the drivers compartment on a whim (invariably when they do that they also grab all your magazines as well then unload each and every one dumping everything them in a big pile before they leave). You haven’t had fun until a cop pulls your loaded pistol outa your car, flags you with your own gun, and then tries to figure out how to clear a pistol that they’ve never handled before on the side of the road.

I graduated at 17, my mother signed the waiver to happily get me out of her house, hair, and quit eating all the food in the house.

Have you ever been in the military to know what you speak of? Once out of basic, we are free to do all the stupid things anyone else can do, no supervision whatsoever. I watched tons of stupid happen while I was in Tech School at Chanute AFB, then, when I got to permanent duty station, it was still a stupid fest.

Your last part I can f*** with. I agree and that was the bullshit reason why PLEA lobbied that constitutional carry to go through in the way that it did. Which is irony due to the fact you have a 4th amendment for a reason.

A lot of people on a college campus are not 17-year-olds. Some of them are middle-aged instructors and professors, who have owned guns and had CCW permits for many years. Some are former or retired military using their GI education benefits. One that I know of is in the building maintenance department, a long-time IDPA and SASS competitor. One that I know of does computer maintenance, and went through Gunsite 20 years ago. They are the kind of people that I, at least, want on campus, with their guns.

In the 80’s I was carrying a Mauser HSC in my bronco. Cruising main in mesa. Some guys started a fight with us. No Gun play at all involved.
However, cops took everybody to jail. I told the cop I had pistol in vehicle.
When we were in the interview room, the cop tried to unload it.
As some know, there isn’t a slide lock lever.
He flagged me a few times trying to unload it. I tried to explain it to him. But he knew better that me. You know, the owner of the weapon.

But, I didn’t die!
And no charges.
They did however, put the most outspoken of the other 5 guys into our cell. He ended up standing all night as we took the benches
And told him he could stand there.

For those from mesa. It was in about 1980, in main at the old jack in the box next to the old Brown and Hoye chevrolet.
