The auto 5 came in 5 grades I believe with different variations of each grade , not including commemoratives and special models.
Of all the grades the Belgium made ones are more desirable than the Japanese made ones.

The most desirable as in collectable would probably be the Auto 5 Gold Classic.
There were only 500 of them made.

Growing up, dad had a Japan-made Auto Light 5, circa 1979. I loved that thing and find it hard to believe the Belgian ones were that much better, but Ballistic Therapy is correct that the Belgian made ones hold more collector value.

If you are looking to acquire an Auto 5 simply to enjoy as a working shotgun, I say the ones produced in Japan are still an excellent choice and a better value for your dollars.

There isn't a bad shotgun on that design. People place value on things, but if you want a great gun, that design is awesome. The Browning is supposedly worth more, but I'd take any at a fair price. I still have my dad's 16g Browning A5. I've hunted with it since I was about 11. I love that gun.

I have a Belgium Light 12 that my grandfather gave me when I was 12. Beautiful gun. I took it to Ben Avery's clay shooting and had about 10 light primer strikes the whole day. Now I'm researching if I need to replace the hammer spring or what.

I have seen Remington shotguns with Auto 5 design. Classic shotgun.

That would be the model 11.
Very good guns.
I bought a 16 gauge Remington Model 11 when I was 16 or 17 years old. It was a very nice gun, and very well built. That's one that I really regret getting rid of in hindsight. It was uncomfortable for me to shoot at the time without a cushioned butt pad, and with the weight, so it didn't get out much and I never hunted with it.

By the way how did I get to be the first post in this thread ?
I didn't start it.

This started with a bot post. You were the first to reply, so when their post got 86ed, you moved to the top of the thread. That's why it shows you as the OP.
