Watch the video. Would you characterize that as "wishy washy"? Or hardcore "Weapons of war in the hands of citizens is the whole point of the 2A"?
I'd be just fine with him as ATF director.
smithers599 said:I guess I don't have that inside info on what he would do, only that he says the 2A protects the right of the people to own and carry guns suitable for fighting. That seems pretty different from all the others before him, but what do I know?

Had not heard he ran for office as a Democrat. Is that true or fake news? Source please?baja said:I believe Masters does have a bona fide of first running as a D and when he couldn't get elected he switched to running as an R. Maybe I'm wrong but I think he's full of it.

Suck My Glock said:I've never heard that. What IS in fact known is that Blake was hanging out at Stanford with magnate Peter Thiel (one of Elon Musk's co-founders of PayPal) in 2012 and 2013, where he became (essentially) a disciple of Thiel, influenced heavily by Libertarianism, at the same time JD Vance was also doing the same under Thiel, but at Yale. Thus it is safe to infer that JD Vance and Blake Masters are pretty much on the same page with things.
I guess my view of him as a "typical politician" comes from his last two campaigns here - where it seems clear to me that he hired run of the mill dirt-bag political consultants who ran smear campaigns against his opponents. The negative smear ad stuff just kills me and I hate it... It's sad that it works.smithers599 said:Yeah, Masters is a geek, but he is not a "politician." He has never held a political office. I consider Biden, Shumer, etc. to be politicians, because that is their job description. Masters ran for political office twice, and lost both times, probably because he is a lousy politician. He is a filthy rich, red-pilled idealogue. A mini-Musk.
I think I've got clarity on where we disconnect - it's around the work "politician" - which I'm using as a pejorative and you are using as a factual thing without the negative connotation... You're use is probably "better," or at least "cleaner," than mine...smithers599 said:Sheriff Lamb, on the other hand, is a politician, because he has held an elective office (sheriff). He is one of the good, red-pilled politicians, for sure.
Agreed - although finding someone "better" than the political activist anti-gun lawyer that runs it right now is not a hard task. Throw a rock into the crowd at the next major public event not held in a blue state - and whomever it hits will be "better" than who is there right now...smithers599 said:Either one, or somebody similarly pro-2A, would be a big improvement as ATF director.
