From a friend in Germany:
Well, it looks like the PC crowd has finally won. The Austrian town of "f***ing" has finally decided to change its name to the more "Bayerische" pronunciation of "Fugging". Some traditions just simply deserve to live on.

The best part is, that in the southern German area (including Austria), there really is no 'Pils' or Pilsner beer, per se, it is a bit less bitter, and called Helles, or Hell for singular, which means "lighter" when referring to the color. In that part of the German speaking world, Helles is a popular beer.
So, of course the lighter coloured beer from f***ing Austria is naturally called 'f***ing Hell', but you probably have to be a Brit to appreciate that name. I'm serious, that really is a beer from there.
And the answer is "Yes, I am one of the people who have stolen a city sign from there during the past years." I was lucky enough to get one back in 1979, before they welded the signs to the posts, and it was much easier than it is today to steal one.
This place will probably loose its influx of tourists once it changes its name to "fugging", and will be just another Austrian town.
