Army has lots of problems they need to get under control. Begins with better suitability checks for ALL members, both officer and enlisted entering service. They need to stop just taking any breathing body with a heartbeat and UP the standards.

There are certainly problems that the military needs to and is working to address in regards to these things. There was just a 150+ page report released on the problems and suggested remedies at Ft Hood. I am curious, however, what suitability checks you would suggest? As it is, only 71% of Americans between the ages of 17 and 24 are even capable of joining the military (intelligence and physical requirements), and of the rest there is a general disinterest in doing so. Which standards do you suggest they increase? How exactly do they determine "suitability?"

Don't take this comment as hating on you, this is a serious question as to what you would recommend.

It isn't anywhere near 71%. It's much, much worse than that. It's 29%

That interest is key. Of the 33.4 million target population, only 9.7 million are qualified to join the Army, according to USAREC statistics. Reasons for disqualification include fitness and weight standards, medical issues, misconduct, substance use and mental health.

Then they have to be available to join, i.e. they’re not already enrolled in college. That brings the number down to 5.7 million. And because the Army isn’t looking for just the bare-minimum qualifying recruits, USAREC says only 1.7 million of those young people are of the high quality they want.

Finally, of those 1.7 million, USAREC estimates that just 136,000 young people would even be interested in joining the Army.

The Army managed to get 6,000 more recruits and officer candidates in the door this year than it had originally planned, thanks to big incentives like bonuses and two-year contracts.

I served with about 75% draftees, it was clear why they went all volunteer. The military will root these out and there will be more, always is feeding that LevenWorth Pen the military is us.

Pretty sure Ft Hood is setting a record for the number of soldiers going AWOL without leaving the base 😄
