80% UZI

I've built many an 80% AR15, too easy. 80% Glock you can do in your sleep. 80% 10/22 easy except the barrel hole.

Then I grew a pair and took on the UZI. Good grief my welding skills have deteriorated over the years!

What welding process did you use? I am told that only TIG will suffice.

I used the cheapest wire feed welder that Harbor Fright sells, using the best wire I could find, and liberal amounts of this anti-splatter paste I got at a welding shop. And lots, and lots of practice, which I think makes the most difference, by far.

Did you use a jig, Brian? She looks good and true. That trunion weld needs to be a beefy beast, seemed to be an alignment concern for some builds from what I have read at Uzitalk. Anyways, good on you.

No jig here. I used a really good repair section, and I only had to line up the front section. I measured and cut, measured and filed, and filed,used a spirit level, filed some more, then used the barrel to approximate the final alignment. Then filed some more and welded.

Looks good Brian!, have you tested yet and how many rounds? If so I am sure you have rechecked for cracks?

Only 25 rounds so far. The desert has been closed due to fire hazards, so I may have to go to an actual range. I look forward to a torture test. I can always re-do my welds, that is, if the bolt isn't imbedded in my face.

Liquid Penetrant Inspection using dye is what I have used and a good magnifying glass.

Note: Shockwave blade was installed because it was too heavy to shoot as a pistol, and I didn't want to use a stupid-assed long barrel to get around building a SBR. Got one already. And how would I register a non-serialized SBR with the BATFE anyway?

If there isn't swearing and alcoholic beverages than your doing something wrong. I would guess it would be the same as doing a form 1 suppressor, just give it your own serial number and have all the info engraved on the receiver

Thats the thing. (And I have a suppressor) I like the fact that it is totally "off the books". Yes, pics are on the interwebz, but if Chelsea Clinton becomes president and we lose all are rights, it would be a while before the jack booted Clinton thugs got to my house. Too much easy low-hanging fruit before then.

How is this build holding up? Any issues in the last year and a half?

I've shot the hell out of it, and its holding up pretty good. Still not 100% reliable, though. Mostly feeding problems. I'm getting near retirement, so I'm selling off about 75% of the collection, and probably the UZI, in the next year or so.
