What's everyone's thoughts on an AR chambered in 458 Socom? I know the ammo is expensive, but I reload, so it should save some $$$.

I'm cheap so if I wanted an AR type gun that fires massive lead, I would get one of the AR style shotguns and load it with slugs

YMMV

I replaced a .450 Marlin lever gun with a .458 SOCOM AR as a camp gun. I like it and will try it suppressed soon.

Oh well, I never sold the Marlin, it became a safe queen, I have a hard time letting go.

I have a lot of fun with mine. I was already making bullets and loading for .458" (45-70 & .460 WBY) bullets so it was an easy choice. I also didn't want to mess with needing different magazines, just use Lancer 5.56 mags and you are set.

I primarily shoot cast bullets that I Powder Coat and gascheck if lighter weight. Below is my all around shooting bullet, 360 gr. from a NOE mould that I use in both my SOCOM and my 45-70

For heavier shooting I cast a spire point 500 gr. bullet and then for really heavy bullets I can make the 600 gr. solid and 570 gr. HP pictured below.

Lastly I can make jacketed bullets from fired brass if I really want to.

Below is a 300 gr. JHP made out of a .45 ACP case and a 405 gr. made with a cut down .308 case.
