Spent a bit of time in the Mazatzal and Bloody Basin and I've always been curious whether you can do an OHV "crossing" from I17 to 87 in the wilderness north of Phoenix and south of the 260--and what kind of setup you'd need? Are the two big obstacles the Verde and the Mazatzal Range?

May not be a thing to it but I swear a lot of hunters I've shared AZ black bear encounters with have them during turkey hunts... not sure if it's time of year or similar stalking grounds or just me reading too much into it? Curious what you used to drop the bull?

Asking for SO: are there any CCW classes that do basic handgun training and range time as part of the course? I know most of the classes are probably rightfully geared up for people that are already trained or knowledgeable and just want to get their CCW, but figured I'd at least see what's out...

Thanks, defintely my take on it too. I'd agree with Lobo as well... a bear attack probably wouldn't make the top 10 list of reasons why I carry in the AZ wilderness, and most of the rest have to do with humans with bad intentions. It's more that if I am gonna carry, I want to have an ammo...

Almost always carry a 9mm semi as 'just in case' but a friend and I were debating if something bigger wouldn't be better in case you're expecting to be field dressing a deer or elk in black bear country, especially in the active rearing months for sows. I'd contend a 9mm with the right ammo...

Always fond of the old saying that if you wanted to know how much time someone spent in the wilderness in AZ, you don't ask them how many years they've been doing it, you ask how many mountain lions they've seen.

Subject sums it up... can anyone suggest a quality bottom metal for a dbm that sits flush--or close to flush--with the stock on a R700? BDL would be great, but open to other profiles too.
