Monthly records from the FBI’s NICS Firearm Background Checks report show in the first seven months of the year, there have been nearly 4.6 million checks. That dwarfs every other state, with only Kentucky coming close with 2.2 million checks from January through July.

For Illinois add in another almost 200K to the current number in Ill because Ill State Police have a backlog of over 140K FOID cards. That means these people are not even allowed to handle a firearm until they are approved.

Problem is the FOID process is a serious pain in the Richard. I was actually turned down for mine when I lived there because the SP returned that I lived in two states- I'm the III and my father is Jr. Tried explaining it to them and it was like teaching a monkey ancient history.
