You can buy the conversion kits with tumblers for about $100 online.

It's the labor, a tumbler requires 30 minutes to an hour to properly set up. A keypad only requires 30 seconds.Ballistic Therapy wrote: ↑May 24th, 2020, 9:38 pm My guess would be , because it is cheaper to make.

Probably for the same reason manual transmissions are going away, stupid millennials can't operate mechanical devices

I also prefer the gym locker type. Possible electronic malfunction Is not what I need when I need to get to what I need.Cubiclerevolt wrote: ↑May 24th, 2020, 9:17 pm I seriously do not want that garbage.
Why do they keep offering these with safes?
I'm completely happy with the high school gym locker combination method of security.

No electronic locks for me. Years ago I got a second hand safe that needed a lock, and I opted for a LaGard 2200/2270. Got a couple copies of the key. No electronics. No combos. No worries.
Re: Because they sell.
That's why you keep some firearms out where you can get at them. Even a keypad lock would get you killed if you had to go too far to get to where it's located.

If you keep your guns locked up until you need them , it might be too late.

Totally agree with Flash and BT. Anything you plan to defend yourself with has to be ready ato go and accessible. The more steps between you and it, the more chance of something going awry.

Re: Why are all safes coming with the electronic keypads?
Resurrecting a (somewhat) old topic:
I just reinstalled my original dial locks on both of my safes. One 8 year old Liberty and one 30 year old Cannon. I previously had an S&G on the Liberty which had been problem free and a LaGard on the Cannon which did fail and locked me out about 20 years ago. Cannon sent a guy out to replace it for free.
Two years ago I installed Securam Pro Logic Xtreme locks on both, thinking the dial backup was a great feature. And it was. One failed about a month ago and I was able to get in with the dial. Securam was zero help, as they have a one-year warranty and won’t even sell parts separately. I did send it back to them and they returned it stating nothing was wrong with it. But it still didn’t work…
So after one LaGard failure and one SecuRAM failure I’m back to dialing my way into both. No more electronics for me.

Mechanical safe locks fail too, my safes have some of both types of locks on them. One thing I dislike about digital safe locks is that they could be quickly opened with the little black box
This one only opens Sentry safes but there is another version available

Scary stuff. How many folks rely on those safes…

A mechanical backup of some sort (dial lock or key lock) is always preferable to go along with the electronic lock.

Mech locks do fail I found out yesterday. As I posted this morning, my 9 month old Liberty with S&G mech combo lock just decided to stop responding. Worked fine for months then suddenly will not do the "stop" at 87.
