Optic recommendation for scar17

What recommendations do you have for an optic for the scar17? If I get one it won't be shot much so I don't want to break the bank. I was considering the Nikon m308. Any opinions on that or other recommendations?

Currently running a Leupy Mk6 1-6, but I got a great deal on it ...Before that I ran a Mil/Mil Vortex PST 2.5-10 X 32.

Glass isn’t quite as clear/bright, but it got the job done for 1/3 the price.

I'm running a Bushnell Tactical Elite 3.5-21X50 ERS on mine. 4 years no problems.

I run an ACOG TA11 with .308 reticle on mine.

One thing I'm considering is weight. It's not a big factor but I don't want to make the rifle heavier.

I like the ta11 you are running roadrunner. What reticle is it. I'm considering the horseshoe. But am also considering an eotech/aimpoint with a magnifier. Any thoughts on that setup vs the acog?

If acog is the better choice would I be better off with an battery powered or tritium powered.

Both setup are over my budget. My other option would be a Burris tac30 with a fast fire mini dot.

What say you?

I prefer the simplicity of the tritium powered ACOG over any other optic on a battle rifle. There's nothing to fidget with, no off and on switch, no batteries to go dead. If you ever look thru an ACOG you'll be amazed at the clarity. There's a reason they're so pricey.
That one is a green donut reticle. All my other ACOGs are red chevron reticles which is what I prefer. The green can get a little to bright if you're shooting on a sunny day with the sun directly over head.
As I'm sure you know the reticle is powered by ambient light transmitted thru the fiber optic tube mounted on the top of the scope. In low light conditions the tritium kicks in.
Have you checked out any of the Vortex models? They seem to be a popular SCAR 17 optic at a lower price (depending on the model).

I think I have to agree with you on the battery hassle thing. My next obstacle is the reticle. I would like the horseshoe reticle but it's only offered in the ta11h which is calibrated for the m240. Waiting on trijicon to let me know if the reticle markings will work for the scar. If not I'll have to get the Chevron which is not my first choice.

I'm pretty sure the M240 reticle is the same as all .308 flat top reticle.

Went ahead and ordered the horseshoe model. I emailed trijicon and they stated it will work with the scar. I'll see how I feel about the reticle once I have it in hand. Thanks for the info roadrunner.

It depends on what you are going to do with it. If you are hunting get a optic with crosshairs and magnification. If you are using it for when it hits the fan get a Aimpoint/Eotech and get used to it. Or you could have a dot and a scope set up and switch between them as you need or want to, just remember what slot on the rail it goes on and push it forward before locking it down and your zero should stay right on the money. Also the possibility of mounting a dot and a scope at the same time.

I won't be hunting. Just target shooting. I considered the Burris tac30 with the fastfire to keep cost down but I figured the resale value on the acog was better in case I changed my mind.
