AK conversion pistol to rifle
Does anyone here have ideas on converting AK brace pistol to a regular rifle configuration. Before I do the form 1 thing and have a useless firearm I can't sell, maybe just make it a rifle and call it done.
As a pistol this thing is not accurate (less than a regular AK) and at night is just a blinding flame thrower.
Who locally works on AKs since Derrek retired?

Other than having a gunsmith replace the barrel with a 16" (or pin & weld muzzle device to bring your existing barrel to 16") there isn't any other way to do it.
Wright Armory does work for me that I don't have the tools to do or no experience doing...all the work they've done for me over the years has been nothing but excellent work. Now, they are not the cheapest place in town...but I don't mind paying for good work done quickly. Be prepared to spend several hundred dollars in labor to swap an AK barrel.
At this point, I'd rather sell an AK pistol and then buy another AK rifle.

on the cheap to wait out this mess as I think it will get overturned you could buy a cheap fake suppressor and have it pinned
https://usmachinegun.com/products.php?cat=33
Local place.. can't speak about how good they are but $50 get you a fake can, and later you can get it unpinned.
But I agree swapping barrels on an AK isn't worth the cost.. trade for a rifle or sell and get a rifle.

I like the link in Mock's answer. Seems like the easiest, so long as the welder is good. I assume that you'd want to be able to remove it (if/when we can) without a whole lotta effort.

Tack weld is just one small weld dot, which can be grinded off. that's enough.. they don't have to weld around the muzzle.

If it's just a tack, why is it called "pinned and welded"?
And, if it's just a tack, WTF would you use a MIG welder?

Yeah, it might just get the welded on fake. Still have a couple months to do it.
On a side note has anyone seen the forgotten weapons video on why the SBR is part of the NFA? Bureaucracy just for the sake of bureaucracy.

Just take the brace off and its a pistol. Wait and see if the law suits have any good outcome. The fake can is the next best option and then you can ditch the brace and put a regular stock on it.

Re: AK conversion pistol to rifle
If I remember correctly, the ATF wants it blind pinned and tack welded over the pin. Or it can be welded 50% of the diameter of the barrel. That's from the 1994 'assault weapons ban' to make a barrel non-threaded. Many added muzzle breaks to threaded barrels to satisfy the requirements of the AWB. Its also popular with AR 14.5" barrels to make them 16". The pin and weld is easier or I should say easier to do and have a good looking finished product.XJThrottle wrote: ↑February 16th, 2023, 7:29 am If it's just a tack, why is it called "pinned and welded"?
