The A-10 is the Thunderbolt II, an homage to the P-47 Thunderbolt. Why can't people use the correct name? We b**** and whine when people say "clip" when referring to a magazine, or "bullet" when they really mean cartridge. And using the correct name for the A-10 always makes me think of, and appreciate, the pilots who flew the original Thunderbolt.

I'm a former jet mechanic, 11 years USAF, and we'll call them whatever the hell we want if we're the ones wrenching on them. It's the "WARTHOG", get over it.Bullzaye wrote: ↑January 6th, 2022, 4:02 pm The A-10 is the Thunderbolt II, an homage to the P-47 Thunderbolt. Why can't people use the correct name? Good for you. I spent 14.5 years in the USAF, working on the avionics systems of the F-106 and the F-15. So, I guess I did more wrenching than you did. Not that it matters one tiny little bit, you could've been in the AF for 100 effing years, and you *can* call it whatever you bloody well please. You'll still be wrong. So..."get over that!"kenpoprofessor wrote: ↑January 6th, 2022, 6:47 pmI'm a former jet mechanic, 11 years USAF, and we'll call them whatever the hell we want if we're the ones wrenching on them. I realize it's just a nickname for the A-10, and that's all well and good. They also call the B-52 "The Buff". But that doesn't make it the aircraft's name. Call the A-10 the Warthog all you want...I'm just saying, how about we also recognize it's actual name, to pay homage to the P-47, and all of the history involved with selecting the name for the A-10? Too many people have little or no knowledge of history, or the reasons for why things are named as they are. Maybe we can help instill some interest in that history, if we promote the actual nomenclature of aircraft, or whatever, when discussing them. Is that really such a painful pill for you to swallow?

Well I spent a similar amount of time as you two working on Honda and Acura cars. Is it still OK to call them Jap Crap even though most are manufactured in the US?
.....unlike your Dodge/Chevy/etc that you'll beat your chest into a heart attack about.
Just askin.

For my money...call them what you want. I'm not a grammar Nazi. I don't correct people when they pronounce Sako as Seiko, instead of Sock-o, or Garand as Guh-rand instead of Gare-and, rhymes with parent.XJThrottle wrote: ↑January 6th, 2022, 9:24 pm Well I spent a similar amount of time as you two working on Honda and Acura cars. My only point was...they use these names to pay respect to the aircraft (and the men who fought in them, and the ones who kept them flying), so that we might take pride in our history, and not forget those that came before us. For those who don't care...continue to use the nicknames. No skin off my nose.
Now, back to your regularly scheduled "Firearm Related Humor".
