I'm sure the prop-master is going to get the blame for this, and certainly they are responsible. But if only Alec Baldwin wasn't a hoplophobic twit and knew some basic gun knowledge, maybe he would have spotted the problem and saved a life, rather than taking one.

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."‘Rust’ DP Dies After Prop Gun Misfire On New Mexico Set Of Alec Baldwin Western; Director Joel Souza Also Injured – Update
By Anthony D'Alessandro, Matt Grobar
October 21, 2021 4:58pm
UPDATED with more details: The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that director of photography Halyna Hutchins was the crewmember killed on the New Mexico set of Rust, where star Alec Baldwin was holding a prop gun that misfired, striking Hutchins and director Joel Souza.
PREVIOUSLY, 4:58 PM: The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that a female crewmember, 42, has died from injuries resulting from a prop gun misfire on the Bonanza Creek Ranch set of the Alec Baldwin Western, Rust. She died after being transported via helicopter to University of New Mexico Hospital.
The gun fired when Alec Baldwin pulled the trigger. That ain't a "misfire."
And of course, he pulled the trigger while pointing the gun at another person.
And of course, he "thought it was unloaded."
Moron.

I'm seeing all kinds of rumors floating around. Some people are saying that the propmaster brought his guns to set loaded. Some people are saying that Alec intentionally killed her. Lots of crazy theories by a bunch of internet gossips. I'll be interested to hear as more details come out.

If it was a cap and ball pistol the percussion cap could have fizzled and Baldwin, wondering what to do now, turned to look at the director (with the cinematographer at the camera right behind the director.) With a black powder pistol like that there would be some sort of plug (wax? hard wax? modeling clay?) to keep the powder in that could be projectile enough. Or maybe movie prop guns work differently.

Unfortunately, actor/actress only knows so much about gun as their next person does.

Third on set death from shooting, studio insurance company pays out the kazoo, star is home in time for corn flakes in the morning, prop master could have some hard questions coming his way.

Yep, no matter what comes out; he's one of the biggest azzholes in hollyweird. Hopefully they charge him with something like negligent homicide for being reckless and stupid. F**k him with a rusty fence post.
