I looked into changing my electronic locks for dial, and there is a kit available for the Costco safes, from the manufacturer. Costs around $200 to swap with their kit.

I have the same safe, but haven't had any problems....yet.

i have at least 4 of the electronic safe locks and the rest are std tumblers, and short of the old guy forgetting one must change batteries once in a while have had no issues.
hehe, classic is when billdeserthills, calmly says" well guy, maybe a new battery is the problem, you do know when it makes that one noise its the battery, right" he had a way of saying it to be sincere yet somewhat condenscending, hehem what a hoot he is, and one helluva lock smithy

I can't tell you the brand right now, but my electronic keypad will twist aside revealing a hole where you insert a very long key to open the safe in the event of an electronic failure. It's not an expensive safe but it is fireproof. 1800 degrees for an hour, I think. You all must be talking about safes with no such key access port, right?

After two no can do and a no call back I Called ACME locksmith.
Kind of liked the name!!
Came out tried the electric lock for a bit but had to drill it.
I was going to just leave it without a lock, but he had a AMSEC keypad with him.
So I had him install it to make it a safe again instead of a locker.
Call me crazy but I now have a cheap Costco bighorn that costs close to a real safe.
I wanted a mech dial but he did not have one and it was getting close to 7PM
I had just purged the receipt so I could not go back to Costco.
Hope I am not back here again with another OH CRAP I did it again.

Yes sir,
I had ACME safe and locksmith stop by.
Tried all the tricks, but had to drill it.
He did not have any combo locks with him so he put an American electric unit on it.
I had to leave my Ft. Knox with the old house, so right now the Costco has to do until I can get a new one

I’ve had good luck with electronica keypad but it is screwing up one time locksmith came out with a spare plugged it in and it worked just fine thank God I didn’t have to drill the safe, I now have a manual combo that I want to have installed in my safe and take out the electronica I just got a find time to do it on FaceTime and get some money to do

If you are going to buy a safe with electronic keypad I suggest you get one with a manual key backup. That way all you have to do is unsnap the keypad from the front and then insert the long key into the safe and turn to unlock.

Still better to have a manual lock, but a decent compromise IMHO

I converted my electronic lock to mechanical...Never use anything but mechanical.

Well crap, my Bighorn is about 10 years old. Hopefully it holds up.

I had a Liberty Presidential series safe with combo lock for 25 years. Had to leave it with house I sold. Bought 2 Liberty Colonial safes with electronic locks and a ten year warranty on the locks. I hope I won't need it. Sorry I didn't see this thread or one like if it existed when I bought the safe 18 months ago.
