I bought the Costco Bighorn electronic lock safe for ammo storage.
Yes it was less than a dam fire security cabinet.
Battery was dead so I changed it out and keypad refuses to do anything!
I see same brand keypad ( Securam) complete with inside latch on Amazon for like a hundred bucks.
Any body know if I plug the new keypad into the wire harness going into the safe if that will work??Next step is a safe smith.
Anyone recomend someone?

Did you buy it direct from Costco? Call their cust.serv. line if you did.

I bought my TV from Costco. Itcarried a longer warranty through them than the factory one simply because I bought it there, at no additional cost. I ended up needing it.

Yeah I did but about 9 years ago.

Yeah the keypad has no life at all no lights or beeps ect.

That is why I wouldn't buy a safe with an electronic lock.
This is not the first time I know of where something like this has happened.

I went to Safe City to buy a newer and bigger safe a couple of years ago. Turned out they had a brand new one in the back, not even unpacked yet.

They unpacked it and tried to get into it unsuccessfully. Turns out the digital lock was DOA from the factory.

I asked Jesse how often he had encountered mechanical locks that had failed. He said that in his 16 years in the business he'd never seen it happen.

I don't use electronic.

I have five with electronic locks, lol, dummy me could'nt get one to open, so had billdeserthills stop in, and dang near fell on the floor laughing as i had not changed the batteries in any of them, now i do it once a year, other than that issue have not had any and i have five with electronic locks and two with tumblers, problem with the tumblers is i forget how many right, how many left, ect. hehehe. just me, i'm slow me thinks

I know nothing , just purely guessing.
If the battery was completely dead for a long time the lock may have forgot the code that was set into it . In doing that it may have defaulted to a factory pre-set requiring a special code ,,,,,maybe.
I would sure call bighorn and ask,,,,, could not hurt.

EMP attack and you guys are all locked out of safes at a very bad time. Electronic locks are all hackable and easily opened by criminals and the feds, government criminals. Devices also exist to lock you out of your safe which is one reason they are pushed this way now. There will come a day when this is the only option available. Internal electronics burn up you are cutting a hole in the door to get inside. Electronic locks are garbage.

They are prepared to drill if needed.
I will keep everyone posted after they finish.

Dang, a tough thing to have to deal with, hope they can get it open.
I don't know what they will cost to drill, but if it comes to drilling, would it be worth it to try and swap out the key pad unit? Just a thought, maybe the locksmith can answer the question if that would be a feasible option.

I have a safe guy let me know if you need assistance, sorry just read the post.

If they can get it open have them change it to a mechanical. I did and won’t go back to electronic for the reasons listed above.
