Why are all safes coming with the electronic keypads?

Mech locks do fail I found out yesterday. As I posted this morning, my 9 month old Liberty with S&G mech combo lock just decided to stop responding. Worked fine for months then suddenly will not do the "stop" at 87.

Wow. Even more scary. At least Liberty has a good warranty. Still sucks to be locked out until they can come and get into it for you.

I got in, with the help of a rubber mallet and utube to know when to whack.

With the door open, tried the lock and it is still farqued up. At least the toys are not trapped now.
Will see what the safe store has to say.

I just went to open my safe with an electronic lock. It beeped and flashed, but didn't open. I guessed at a new battery, and that did the trick. Clearly, if it was an emergency, things could have been difficult. I need to set a yearly reminder to replace the battery, to catch it before it gets that weak again.

In my opinion, electronic keypad locks are easier to install and maintain. Mechanics, it is more reliable, but maintenance is labor-intensive and expensive. Changing the password for a new one is easier on a lock with an electronic keypad.
