Ben Avery Range facilities are not threatened,...but the backstop mountain is burning.

I hope it was not caused by shooting, or that the Powers That Would Love To Close The Range don't allege it was caused by shooting.

Re: Fire at Ben Avery
Considering it started about 100 yards behind the backstop, it's safe to say it was caused by shooting.smithers599 wrote: ↑October 21st, 2020, 4:01 pm I hope it was not caused by shooting, or that the Powers That Would Love To Close The Range don't allege it was caused by shooting.

Most likely. That's not the first time that mountain has been set afire. The previous fire was caused by a shooter.QuietM4 wrote: ↑October 21st, 2020, 4:21 pmConsidering it started about 100 yards behind the backstop, it's safe to say it was caused by shooting.smithers599 wrote: ↑October 21st, 2020, 4:01 pm I hope it was not caused by shooting, or that the Powers That Would Love To Close The Range don't allege it was caused by shooting.

Re: Fire at Ben Avery
look at the bright side. You can now shoot into that area without starting a fire.

Re: Fire at Ben Avery
With all their complaining and bitching about how they don't want a brush fire, they never even attempted to remove or remediate the brush around the range...seems like a simple solution to the problem.gunpoorboy1 wrote: ↑October 21st, 2020, 6:25 pm look at the bright side. I never understood how people managed to shoot over the berm until I was lucky enough to be at a table next to a group shooting an AR at 100 yards with only a front sight. That place is flat out scary in January with all of the new people out there with their new Christmas guns. I can't imagine what it's like now.

Nothing has made much sense out there since AZGF took it over, but they got a nice shiny building.

Re: Fire at Ben Avery
Was this most likely caused by a ricochet or someone shooting tracer ammo? I have been shooting out there for over 30 years and never seen a fire started. But then again this summer has been hot and dry as hell.
Re: Fire at Ben Avery
It doesn't take much. I saw a fire started at an indoor range a year or so ago.

Re: Fire at Ben Avery
They should of let the entire North face of that hill burn all the way down. That's what the Big Sandy crew would do. They would stop it from going over the hill, but let the North face burn down. Infact after a rainy winter, they would tell us where to shoot tracers to make sure it got all burned down. Usually after one shoot, there would be nothing left to burn 20yds from the top all of the way down. The Fall shoot would have no fire stoppages.
