For several years, conservatives in the Czech Republic’s parliament have been pushing to add the right to armed self-defense as one of the “fundamental human rights and freedoms,” according to David Harsanyi writing in National Review.

“The right to defend one’s own life or the life of another person with a weapon is guaranteed under the conditions laid down by law,” the proposed amendment reads.


Conservatives passed the amendment through the lower house of parliament, but it failed in the upper house. But now they’ve earned a majority in the senate, and the Czech government unexpectedly announced it would endorse the plan to add the language.

Exactly. It’s a natural human right that should be universal

My wife is a Czech and hopes they get a 2nd amendment.

I haven't seen any articles or press releases confirming it, but I just heard that the Czech Republic senate passed this new law making gun ownership a basic human right. If this is true, I'm thrilled for the Czech people.

Funny how their laws are becoming less restrictive, and our rights are under constant attack. I thought the left wanted us to emulate Europe...

I hope they define 'weapon' as more than just a rock. They need to get it right the first time, so it can't be picked apart later and lawyered to death, as some do to our 2A with the wording and punctuation.

Yep, even the words" shall not be infringed", don't mean a thing to moron politicians.

Looks like it finally happened. Passed 139 to 9 in the lower house, which was the final step.
