How do you store your ammo?

#1

Post by Chris_Y »

Any good ideas on storing ammo? I currently use ammo cans but was wondering if there are better options. Thinking of building a shelving in the garage instead of lining them on the wall. Keep them in package or lose?

Generally in cans with desiccant, not in the garage because it's theoretically easy access/easy to enter.

Most of my ammo is in component form and it's in the garage in powder cans, cardboard boxes and other containers.

Heat won't hurt the components and neither will the humidity we have here.

Some in my safe to grab when I shoot my guns and the rest in ammo cans in the closet.

That's what I did. I had a friend build out of 1/2" Plywood and 2x4' s as well as a loading bench. I store components and powder on the shelves and the ammo in ammo cans or MTM boxes for ammo I've reloaded. I also invested an a 2 ton HVAC system to keep the garage @ 78 degrees years year round. Cost me almost 7 grand. Expensive absolutely but you only go around once and you can't take it with you so might as well do it comfortably and not have to be in the garage reloading in the hot Phoenix are weather. :D

I just stick mine on a shelf in the boxes it comes in.
I have never had a problem.

ammo cans in the office closet, some in the bottom of the big safe , some in the bottom of the little safe, (guest bedroom, master bedroom) some in the garage in a cabinet, the powder is in the garage in a couple of big totes . the rest of the reloading stuff is still scattered around while I build a new bench.

Ammo cans, and factory cans in the heat of the garage.
I would prefer 72 degrees and no humidity but, not gonna happen for me
