How often do you clean your guns?
Re: How often do you clean your guns?
I clean every time I shoot, just makes it easier to remove the carbon build up if I do it immediately.

Re: How often do you clean your guns?
I had to add something else. I don't clean my guns every time I shoot, but I do know that they are significantly easier to clean when the carbon is fresh. So I tend to use the need to clean as an additional excuse to arrange a shooting expedition with every gun I have, several friends, then some pizza and beer back home while we clean everything. Maybe a poker game after.

Not much anymore. I shoot and then let them stack up and when the wife left town I'd clean them up in front of the TC.

Re: How often do you clean your guns?
I used to clean after every trip for the simple fact as it seemed easier to get clean. Lately however it’s been about 2-3 trips to the range before they get cleaned. I’m not proud of letting some
of them go that long but have been slacking.
Carry piece gets cleaned and lubed every month or two unless it’s gotten filthy with an off-road trip. I do like the test fire after a tear down and clean before I carry again in which case I switch to another for the time being.
Think this topic is like A-holes, everyone’s got one but some look and smell a little different...

Hunting rifles get cleaned after very use.
I don't shoot handguns much. When I do they usually get cleaned too.

Depends on what I'm doing but it seems like for the most part, I clean after 1k-1.5k rounds.
I used to clean them after like every trip to the range, but I just don't really see the point/benefit in doing so. Maybe if I only shot like twice a year, I'd still do it just to keep from all the crud sitting on everything for months and months on end.

Re: How often do you clean your guns?
When I was young I used to clean my guns whenever I went shooting. Then as I got older and lazy I only did my guns about once a year when I'd set up tables and pull everything out and clean them. Now that I'm old I only seem to clean guns when they get so cruddy that they get sluggish or look grubby even after wiping them down.
The only exception is my precision rifles that I try to clean by round count. Perhaps that's why I don't shoot those guns that much anymore.

If I'm on the ground/in the dirt a lot, I clean after the session. If it's just standard indoor or standing shooting.... meh, every so often. Maybe a quick wipe here and there.
There are plenty of people who are running the same guns after thousands of rounds with little to no cleaning at all. Just lube/oil and go.

Re: How often do you clean your guns?
Even when not shot, I clean my carry guns every few weeks. My go to guns that are locked away get cleaned and re-oiled about once a year.
Anything I shoot I try to clean within a few days.
