Yea the pedo really sucks ass. The Norinco ban was a major screw job. I remember that Norinco 7.62 in the silver boxes. Great ammo, all copper jacket; about $80 a thousand. Still have some BW-36 powder, shoots about the same as 3031 and was $8 for 2 pounds.

The springfields and several other are investment cast and they hold up well.

If it is engineered properly and heat treated after manufacturing you would be amazed at how well some of these parts work. Not that I trust anything chink made but those old 14's were pretty good.

At least now there are options for bolts other than USGI that are built right but good luck getting one in unless you are friends with a dealer in Canada and back road it across the border. Their bolts have always been a problem but the receivers were good, still heat treated them though.

Some of Springfield Armory Inc's bolts were cast, some were forged.

If anyone had any illusions about whether forged is better than cast, I think that riddle was solved when Springfield Armory Inc stopped using cast bolts and went to forged bolts. That's why they have the "F" marking on them.

The bolts were/are the issue, improper HT allowed lug deformation and led to unsafe headspace. A Simple GI bolt conversion solved the issue. The receivers are forged and some of the most dimensionally accurate to GI spec and are very good quality. I have never read of a receiver problem related to either HT/metallurgy on a Norinco/Polytech.
