Yes he did try. He even went as far as Posting signs in all of the parks and preserves. He figured it would work like a private owned business, but alas, he didn't own these parks, the people do (Small detail). Once City attorneys reminded him, he came to his senses quickly, all signs disappeared and there was never a mention again. The ban was short lived and nobody's rights were ever infringed.

Unfortunately:
Sec. 38-27. - Fireworks; fires; glass; weapons; violations.
(a) Within a park and recreation area it shall be unlawful for any person to:
(6)Bring any pistol or revolver or objects upon which loaded or blank cartridges may be used. Official starters, at authorized track and field events, are excepted from this restriction.
(7) Bring any rifle, shotgun, BB gun, air gun, spring gun, slingshot, bow, or other weapon in which the propelling force is gunpowder, a spring or air.
This subsection (a) shall not apply to any peace officer or law enforcement officer of this state or the United States or any animal control officer of the city and shall not apply to any person having a permit issued by this state pursuant to A.R.S. § 13-3112. Persons who possess a valid concealed weapons permit are permitted to possess a firearm within a city park, unless the city park is operated pursuant to a joint use agreement with a school and the school is in session.
(b)Violations of this section shall be a class 1 misdemeanor. Upon conviction, the municipal court shall order restitution to be paid by the violator to the city for the cost of cleanup resulting from the violation and the enforcement of this section. Restitution shall be actual cost.
Took a bit to find but here is the website: https://library.municode.com/az/surpris ... ordinances
Guess some folks are more equal than others...SURPRISE!!

Sounds fishy, but why even open carry? No permit required to conceal; unless that's changed.

Re: City Park open carry?
Apparently he didn't want to go fishing any more either. Times have changed and unless you live in Show Low, if you have a rig hanging off your hip, especially in a park with kids running around, common sense dictates your chances that you're going to be hassled go up exponentially. I love the fact we can open carry. I used to in my younger days but over the decades people have become so distraught at the sight of a gun on a man(or woman's) hip. For the most part I never had an issue. A few times people asked me If I was a cop simply for open carrying which I found kind of funny; But the last time I open carried, the situation I was in changed my mind. I was at Autozone buying an alternator and the guy behind me in line really had a problem with it. He started hassling me about how I'm putting his life in danger and there's no reason to have a "GIANT GUN" and how I'm a b**** for needing to carry and so on. Nothing I could do as he was looking to throw down. I calmly excused myself from my place in line and went to a different store just to avoid any more confrontation. I signed up for my CCW that same night(When we used to require one). It's just not worth the hassle in the city; unless you enjoy confrontation with idiots. As the old saying goes, just keep in your pants, Hell, it's legal.

Re: City Park open carry?
I have open carried for decades,.... never had one confrontation,... not one.
A Right not exercised, is a Right lost.
I believe,...until open carry citizens start calling the police and file complaints for public harassment by hoplophobes,... the problem will continue to exist, and possibly get worse.
I feel that submitting to the paranoia of a hoplophobe only encourages further infringements by them, on other open carry citizens, exercising their Creator endowed inalienable Right.
The political pendulum has never been more favorable for Patriots to exercise their Human Right to self defense,... continuing as if our time has not evolved, only empowers the progressive socialist left diluted mind set,... imo.

Re: City Park open carry?
oh my the sky is falling if you "open carry" , horse feathers, i say.
While i don't normally open carry, i have and i do when i choose too, and there is the greatest reason of all, '' because you can'', if others have issues, well then, its their problem, and one must learn to deal with it. While i care greatly about others opinions, i do not perhaps share their thoughts on their opinion but will gladly defend their right to have it. Having one does not mean one has to officiate it by following it thru.
Arizona has been an open carry joints since i was a tyke, so i'm probably used to it, and as noted, do on occasion, amazing how many folks seem to cower at the mere site of a visible unit. screw'm i say, they should learn the law before they turn into the whiners they become at the site of one.

Re: City Park open carry?
Open carry one day a few years ago coming back from Avery in north Peoria, stopped at a little market.
Pick up some soda and went to pay, the kid looked like a frazzled snowflake, i thought it odd. After paying I got into my truck and started to leave a police car came flying in and the officers jumped out and went running into the store almost knocking other people down.
Actually I was glad I was not still in the store, went ahead and drove away the officers were pumped up for sure. Never saw that little snowflake working there again.

Re: City Park open carry?
I see people open carrying in Tucson all the time.
I have never seen or even heard about someone getting upset about it.

Well get ready, with more and more Cali fruits and nuts leaving all the needle and shiat filled streets behind, they will be here in full force trying to remake Az. in their previous state image,... just as all the Cali fruits and nuts that have come here for the past couple decades, have done.
I see things possibly getting worse, if Patriots don't start nipping this crap in the bud by standing up for their Creator Endowed Inalienable Natural Human Rights,... before they go the way of the Dodo!
