I am starting to wish I had never ask.
First off I have no desire whatsoever to put one together. I just don't want to.
I know a little bit about AR's as I have several and I carried one in the service for 9 years.
I purchased my first personal AR style rifle in 1971. It was a Colt SP1.
I have had them ever since. I do not need a lesson on how they work or how they are put together.
Every AR I have ever owned except one has been made by Colt.
If Colt made an AR pistol I would just buy that , but as far as I can see they don't make them.

I just wanted opinions on what a good Factory made AR pistol was.
That is all.

RandyTF wrote: April 5th, 2019, 10:19 am Actually, the term "build" is misleading when all you do with ARs is assemble parts. I am a retired building contractor. In building you take materials and change them into something new and different to become a house, cabinet, etc. There are not pre cut parts to simply stack up to do such things. AR parts are, for the most part, interchangeable. It is simply "assembly". But we like to think we create our own AR so the term "build" is more creative sounding. But they are fun to ______ (fill in the blank.)
^^^This

Putting an AR together is not even close to what guys who "build" AKs or roller-lock weapons from flats have to do. Where a press, drill press, welding, heat treatment and rivets are involved.

As I mentioned earlier, with a PSA kit you can have a pistol for sub $500.
Yes sir! AKs are a bit more like a build. Did I tell you that I built my AK in 6 minutes?
Did you do it during a typhoon?

Sometimes a simple question does not have a simple answer. There are too many variables involved with ARs and lots of good ones to chose from. Since you have experience with them, you shouldn't be surprised.

Well if you know so much about ARs then I don't see what's so hard with deciding which AR pistol to buy. They are simply an AR with a shorter barrel and minus the buttstock after all. So it's not rocket science.

Colt's have the name but are hardly the top end of ARs as far as quality goes. If you are fine paying Colt prices then pick any AR pistol in the $1K+ range and lay down your money.

I just wanted opinions on what other people thought were quality out of the 100's of AR makers these days.
The only contribution you added was " pay as little as possible " and now you say pay $1k for one.
So apparently according to your vast knowledge are you saying that the ones you pay the least for are as good as the ones you pay $1K for ?
Only two people in three pages of this thread actually gave a recommendation.

Ballistic Therapy, I have enjoyed some of your posts,... in the past.

But, I don't know you personally, and your attitude on this post has put me off a bit. I don't know what you position in life is, but, just because you ask, or, demand something from others,... doesn't mean they must comply.

I understand you frustration, I have experienced the same in the past, but, getting froggy just because you aren't being satisfied by strangers, won't get you many points,... imo.

Take a breathe guy,... it's just the internet!

Exactly...they are just an AR and most price increases are simply based on the cachet of the name stamped on them. And if irrc there are still only like three places that make all the forgings no matter whose name they stamp on the side.

I gave you the info on a good value for the money set up from PSA. However you seemed to take offense at being told to buy cheap and not wanting to be bothered installing a FCG, screwing on a buffer tube and snapping two take-down pins in place. So after your "I own Colts and know ARs" rant I gave you a price to look for that would put you in the same price range to help you feel more comfortable.

The bottom line is that aside from the ones with poly lowers, there really aren't any to avoid.

You missed some manufacturers but that list is a good start
Honestly I dont really give a sh!t one way or the other just buy a fuc$ing ar pistol from fuc$ing someone and let's get a God da# review for God sakes. We have wasted enough time you could have gotten one by now. Pick, buy and let's shoot.

I built 5 FAL's before you can spell the designers name !!! and I timed the barrels with special cleaning rods and headspaced them with pin gages too!
The AK's took extra time to drive up to a buddys house who has a press and welder.

Did I tell ya about the time I made parkerizing solution from D batteries and parkerized the AK's on a BBQ using an old ammo can?
