Gun-seizure laws grow in popularity since Parkland shooting

Nine states have passed laws over the past year allowing police or household members to seek court orders requiring people deemed threatening to temporarily surrender their guns, bringing the total to 14. Several more are likely to follow in the months ahead.

More than 1,700 orders allowing guns to be seized for weeks, months or up to a year were issued in 2018 by the courts after they determined the individuals were a threat to themselves or others, according to data from several states obtained by The Associated Press. The actual number is probably much higher since the data was incomplete and didn’t include California.

Apparently our governor is in favor of this idea. I suggest everyone join AZCDL and fight this.

And the Governor will be held for the deaths of citizens and police killed?

What a great idea. Much better than revenge porn. Have a dispute with a family member? Perhaps the wife found out about the girlfriend. Got laid off at work and they happen to know you own guns?

I see nothing but abuse, not misuse, but abuse of laws like these. And the burden of proof is on you to prove you are not a danger to yourself and others.

Actually that has been the standard procedure for a long time. Be adjudicated a danger in a court of law.

The new "red flag" versions however take your weapons PRIOR to you ever seeing a courtroom.

And anyone can make the complaint.

Uh oh, if AZCDL doesn't fight this one off successfully, i suspect there will be blood in the streets and i suspect it won't be patriots.

Maryland police murdered a guy a few months ago because somebody falsly claimed he was a threat.
