Don't worry, I sure he knows the difference.XJThrottle wrote: ↑January 22nd, 2019, 6:18 pm I don't have any interest in one. The OP said he was gonna build an AR, and you suggested to get a 45-70. No 45-70 in AR, then it doesn't fit the OP's intents.

Yah, kinda.
Being a marlin444 kinda guy has brought the 45/70 into many, many of my conversations/debates over the years!
I just found a 458Socom upper on my favorite upper supplier's web sight,... so, now I am confronted with what pieces I am willing to downsize with, without too much regret.
Keep an eye on the classified forum,... gonna offer one hell of a white elephant sale as soon as I am 100% sure I want to go down this road.

Got into it for a while, bought the dies reloaded a bunch then threw it in the safe for when the day comes that I have to stop a semi truck with the nasty mother f***

I hear ya, but, I like to take different approaches to most of my weapons.
I am huge proponent for ' BIGGER IS BETTER '!
But, I like to customize just about 100% of the time, when I can. I would like to load 600 grain cast lead to about 1,500 FPE, or a little less. Strictly for up close and personal work,... not interested in shooting semi trucks or any big bore loaded to max anymore,... been there, done that.

Here you go, 600 gr. solid and 570 JHP with the HP pins installed in the mould. Don't know about getting it up to 1,500 fps but I am shooting these close to 1,100 fps. out of a 16" bbl.shooter444 wrote: ↑January 30th, 2019, 6:41 pm I am huge proponent for ' BIGGER IS BETTER '!

Well, that is the nice thing about BIG,... going slow doesn't hurt the performance all that much. If I can duplicate the energy of a 223 at the muzzle with 600 grains, I would be happy.

Hey Brandon,.... yup, it's a lot of weight compared to my 36 grain varmint load. But, I kinda look at it like this,... 600 grain cast lead is like using a bowling ball,... compared to an ice pick.
Re: Any 458socom aficionados out there?
I would just go with 50AE. Cheap to shoot. Many manufacturers make ammo and cheap to reload.
