Bought a new rifle at a local chain sporting goods store. Rifle was o clearance and sold as new. Apparently someone ordered it and then changed their mind.

I take it home and look up some info online. I notice it's got a different flash hider so I email the manufacturer for more info only to find out the rifle was made in 2013. What??!

Is it typical for a firearm to sit around that long?

probably why it was on clearance?

The details on the rifle would help to give some good reasons as to why it sat around.
But quantity ordered and popularity wouldn't be a factor here, since it was a special order

NEW old stock, or NEW, new stock,... what's the diff?

Not familiar with that model, but, sometimes older stock can be better than newly manufactured stock,... just say'n.

Not really concerned. Just not 1. Familiar with this rifle and any changes that were made over the years 2. Wondering if this is normal for a weapon. Specifically one that is not as common.

IIRC They were high dollar competition to the SCAR but since BM lost the military competition, most people went with the FN- they probably had a ton of them made up sitting in a warehouse and just now got back to where yours was . You can buy a lot of other rifles for the same money.

Magpul hyped the hell out of that rifle, and had a huge following, before selling the rights to Bushmaster. When Bushmaster eventually brought it to market, they changed some of the things that people liked about the Magpul Masada. On top of it they asked for a ridiculous price and completely burned the entire fan base.

Both Bushmaster and Remington sold very few of these, so it makes sense why that rifle was sitting for so long.

There are times I have bought out gun shops going out of business. I have found guns that have been in stores for 20-40 years. 3 years ago I bought out a store in another state and they had over 30 Colt revolvers they did not even know they had, they were pissed when they saw them but they had already done the deal so they were mine. There are several local shops that have had the same guns on display for at least 10 years that I can remember. Gun stores tend to buy crap that doesn't sell or they are forced to buy crap that doesn't sell like when Colt packages cowboy crap in with the AR-15's you really want and after a while you end up with a pile of overpriced crap nobody wants. Mandells had guns in his shop he bought in the 70's when he died. He was known for buying a extra gun when he did a special order for someone as he figured someone would want it.

I've still got 6 Colt Peacemakers/New Frontier .22LR/.22WRM Convertibles NIB in my safe. Last made in 1977

Old NIB stuff is still around.

I think it'll be OK. I don't think it expires any time soon like a jar of mayo.

Late last year I bought a Pedersoli 86/71 that had been sitting at the Sportsman's Whorehouse for over five years. It had dings and scratches and buggered forend screws...no one wanted it.....

Finally the priced dropped so low, I could not resist.

Correct me if I am wrong, but, that 86/71, is in Marlin444 caliber,... no?

If it is,... my cut down pre-safety Marlin 336 in 444 is,... THE,... weapon I take when I go to the Chiricahua Mountains/bear/cat country,... without hesitation, or, second thought!!!
