I’m looking for a place to desert shoot in north Phoenix. I used to go to a place on lake pleasant road but it looks like that land has been closed off. And I hear that there is no more shooting at table Mesa. I have ar500 targets and pick up my brass cause I reload. And I do t shoot trash or leave any. Anybody have a special spot. I also don’t have a off-road rig. Need to be accessible which a 2wd truck. Looking to take a out town brother in law shooting for my brithday (also known as Christmas Day to others).

Go north on the west side of I17 from Table Mesa rd and you will see a few spots with small signs about shooting. I went up the first one and there was a pretty big dip/wash that needed good clearance but not necessarily 4wd. This was maybe 1 1/2-2 miles N of Table Mesa rd. I didn't watch the mileage. I heard there are a few more spots along that road. I could see I17 from the spot but there was a good backstop facing west but not a long shooting area.

Fair warning on shooting out at Table Mesa. It has gotten progressively more dangerous and retarded every time I have gone out there in recent years. At least in any of the spots you can get to in a non lifted/offroad vehicle.

Last time I went out there, some moron and his friend rolled up, parked 4 feet behind the firing line that everyone who was there was using, and started opening fire with an AK behind us into the pit while bouncing their casings off the side of my buddy's car. These stalwart examples of natural selection didn't even have the forethought to buy earpro or know how to operate the safeties on their firearms. Spooked me out so much that I abandoned my normal code of cleaning up 100% of my trash, and just bugged out. Time before that, I was out there when someone had their steel target set up at a bad angle, and as a result, I took ricochet to the chest. And the time before that, some idiots decided to roll up to us after we had been there shooting for hours on end to tell us that they were going to go hunting behind the hill we were using as a backstop. They then proceeded to threaten to shoot back at us when we pointed out that doing so probably wasn't the best idea.

Not trying to dissuade you from going out there, but keep up a good awareness of your surrounding and if possible, bring a friend or two with you. Also, avoid going out there Friday-Sunday. Needless to say however, I am done going out to Table Mesa for target shooting. Waiting until I get a decently capable off road vehicle to explore more of the land off the i17 away from others.

It Must be lonely to go shooting by yourself. So nobody finds your top secret hidden bunker spot.

there isnt many spots to shoot legally on the east side and there is a particularly vicious pit down the road anyways, most of it is state trust land though and its posted that target shooting is no go

west side ends by the lake, and also tends to circle around an area with too much OHV traffic to safely shoot, tbh. Lot's of hidden roads that turn out to be full of motorcyclists.

there's a few off a semi-hidden embankment but its hit or miss whether its full or not, but for the most part most of tabel mesa is essentially spoken for on the weekend

Eh I was thinking more of exploring tonto a bit. I know I can only shoot steel or paper targets out there, but that is fine with me. Better than being harassed by idiots.
