Shoot steel at 100-200-300 yards, just west of the DPS range. Will be open a couple weekends a month to gauge interest. Will be closed M-F, as will be used by LE. Grand opening Saturday 12/29, 8am - 4:30pm. Pay at the main range.

Very nice. Give people a chance to exercise their hunting rifles and EBRs without having to take breaks to go out and check/change targets. Good idea.

Closed week days means I won't ever go. BA is cancer during the weekend. Too many people.

Wish there was a steel range open weekdays that doesn't require being a LEO or in a club.

Does the $7 range fee cover all ranges?

Nope, $20. Pay at the main range store. That fee also covers shooting at the main range.

Main range closed Monday-Tuesday, open Wednesday-Thursday-Friday. Yep, very busy on weekends. I don't think this new range will very busy, even though it's a Saturday. I'll be out there fairly late in the day.

Too many negatives, now that I got into the detail before going.

Rifles in their calibers only. My T/C Super 14 in 8MM JDJ will knock down all their rams at 300yds and the pigs at 100yds with the .223 or 6.5 JDJ. I was able to do that for practice pre G&F. My 8MM hasn't been out since my last elk hunt 3 years ago and I wanted to play with it.

$20, an extra $12 to pay for their experiment to see if the range should go back to where it was before they took it over, Bull.

If it works for them, Sat & Sun only.... Like others of said, NO!

I will rearrange my sock drawer for more fun.

Thirded. I live right down the road and would rather drive out to the desert or up to Payson.

Why the hell doesn't DPS have their own facility? This is a disturbing trend;...gov't taking over ranges with promises of access and improvements, but only partly improving and turning the facilities into primarily LEO asset. The Joe Foss range in Buckeye is an example. Maricopa County messed that up pretty good. And the now non-existent sportsman club that used to be at the junction of the 303 and Grand ave.,...the county shut it down as a suppossed noise nuisance only to convert it exclusively for the sheriff's department.

I don't mind sharing the place, but that seems like an unjustifiable amount of exclusivity.

Doesn't DPS already have their own range at Ben Avery?
