Now that Wally World doesn't sell ammunition anymore, where is the most cost effective in person location to purchase plinking rounds?

True Shot is the best in-person place. https://trueshotammo.com/

Darrol is right. WalMart no longer sells any handgun ammo, and no "assault weapon" ammo like .223 and 7.62 Russian. In 308, they have soft points and hollow points, but not FMJ bulk practice ammo. You see, the Second Amendment is about hunting, don't you know?

They do have good prices on .22, though. Good place to buy .22.

Anyway, the answer to the original question is "True Shot." Northwest Armory (adjacent to Scottsdale Gun Club) has 9mm FMJ for 26 cents/round, which is only a couple cents more than True Shot, just in case they are a little closer to you.

Online, go to ammoseek.com, but don't buy the first bargain you see. Spend some time learning to use the filters, so you can find what you want. For example, "aluminum case OK, but not steel; free shipping on large orders" or whatever your parameters might be.

I'll probably hate myself in the morning, but Howard's Ace Hardware just west of 32nd Street on Indian School Rd. has had a nice selection of blasting ammo. Used to have powders as well, but haven't been thee lately.

I used to go there all the time, but then they stopped. They've started selling ammo again? Get in the car!

After a shooting in Texas they stopped selling a lot of ammo. Handgun, 5.56 etc.

Nothing at all wrong with steel ammo. I've shot thousands of rounds with no problems.

I typically have the most common stuff on hand. If you are wanting to stock up, let me know how much of each you are looking for and I can put together a package price.

If you are looking for more of a regular, "stop in on my way to the range" store, then there are some good brick and mortar LGS's around.

They stopped selling 9mm, .40, .38. .357, .45 and all other "handgun ammo" as well as ammo for those "evil assault rifles"

I stopped shopping there at all after the stopped selling ammo that I shoot the most of. I used to pick up ammo and shop but now buy everything elsewhere. I spend quite a bit each month on ammo, and other than ammo, I don't miss them much.
