Curious if anyone has harvested a Bison with a 45-70 and what load you used.

Re: 45-70 for Bison
My brother killed one with a lever gun.
Not sure if it was a Winchester or Marlin.
He used Hornadys LEVERevolution ammo. I don't know what grain it was though.

If it was the current 45-70 is should be 325gn FTX projo. I actually have a box of it.Ballistic Therapy wrote: ↑December 10th, 2023, 5:46 pm My brother killed one with a lever gun.

Would you mind asking him? Also the range he took the shot?

Re: 45-70 for Bison
I know a woman who killed one with a Sharps. She told me that on the first two shots, he just stood there with no reaction at all. After the third shot, he just tipped over, dead. Don't know the ammo, but it would have been something "authentic" to the Sharps.

It was a few years ago. He is not sure of the exact grain , but it was 300 or so.Doc wrote: ↑December 10th, 2023, 7:14 pmIf it was the current 45-70 is should be 325gn FTX projo. It was about 130-140 yards when he killed it. He shot it twice , but the first shot did the trick.
