I’ve used tin foil on the old vw fuses to make them work.
I’ve know guys that have used empty 22 cases. I’ve not known any with the intelligence to use a loaded round as a fuse.

My guess is the primer got hot enough to ignite. Poor man's IED detonator, even has 2 minutes for terr to walk away.
