What are the chances!

Post by Boriqua »

I just cant imagine what kind of one in a million chance that a flying piece of brass could set off a primer. First the primer is a bit below the surrounding surface so the rounded piece of brass would have to get in there .. but .. the video is there.

Someone postulated that it wasnt the brass hitting the primer so much as the brass being hot ignited it. I have had brass wind up on my glasses or down my shirt. Its uncomfortable but I wouldnt think its hot enough to cook off a round?

No only have I seen that happen once, but I've seen it happen multiple times. This is the exact reason I don't leave loose rounds on shooting benches, or trays of ammo primer side up.

There is no way a "hot" piece of brass did this...it's the spent casing hitting the exposed primer at the pefect angle.

And the camera just happened to be pointing in the right direction?

Yes. It's clearly a video of a guy filming his friend while shooting...where else would the camera be pointed?

I mean at the floor when the case hit the primer.

ETA: Oh, I see it now. The case hit the primer that was on the shooting table (not on the floor), and then the camera was zoomed in.

There's at least one more video of that happening. Was about three or four years ago, same situation, brass bouncing off the wall and hitting a cartridge in an open box on the bench.
