In 1974 I was in Taiwan. One day I asked a person I got to know what he'd do if the Chinese invaded. His answer, get my rifle and shoot Chinese. I asked what if you run out of ammo. Before he could answer a lady next to use replied, "Throw rocks and use clubs." The Taiwanese love their country and will defend it. I'm not surprised that the civilian population are honing their fighting skills.

Taiwanese are looking at Ukraine and thinking about themselves. Some have even gone to Ukraine to fight. And some influential military folks say arm the people.

When Russia took Crimea in 2014 Ukraine did not put up a great fight but in the interim they really stepped up training with the West's help.Taiwan is in 2014 mode. Much of it a cultural problem as the article said.
