I am signing my nephew up for a Project Appleseed event.
https://appleseedinfo.org/

This is the events calendar for 2022:
https://appleseedinfo.org/schedule/?qst ... te=Arizona

He is a 10 year old boy who has shown a natural ability for marksmanship.
The program is a combination of American history and marksmanship training.

He will be using a Ruger 10/22 with Tech sights.
I will provide the ammunition.
What .22 ammo would the board recommend ?

A lot of people knock Aguila because they are made in Mexico, but I have had excellent luck with that brand. And they are also Eley-primed, so much more reliable than most other bulk .22 ammo.

Thanx for the reply.
I guess what I asking was would a subsonic be preferable to a round nose ? I'm trying to narrow it down to a match grade round that would feed reliably and be accurate.

I will put Aquila on the list.
The biggest problem will be availability, but I have some time to accumulate.

This is a great time, I am going to sign my son up as well. I really enjoyed going and learning the history of the unfamiliar people who contributed to our resistance.

I am certain I can get my marksman badge this time. =)

Subsonic would be fine if he were shooting a bolt gun, but I don't think it will cycle well in his 10/22. Not really match grade stuff, but I have had excellent results for reliability and accuracy with pretty much anything from CCI.

A standard velocity 22 LR something in the 1080 range should work fine for him.. But, what ever you decide to use be sure to test fire a few magazines of it to make sure it will feed reliably so he wont have to spend time clearing jams so he will be able to concentrate on his shooting.

I will second the Aguila and CCI recommendations. Those two are, in my experience, the most reliable you can find (of the affordable kind--I haven't tried the expensive stuff) .

I posted this thread looking for verification.
I was assuming CCI would carry the board.
I have enough CCI to cover the event.

Exactly right. My hope is the kid gets his badge on the first go round. He has an interest, hopefully we can spark a fire.

I shot Nomra Match white box from a 10/22 and earned my patch.

My family has shot 3 Appleseed, all with CCI Sv ammunition.

It is more than adequate for 25 yds

CCI standard velocity or Aguila. Reliable .22lr ammo.
