Ok,...but I wanted to know who bought the most per capita. (For you knuckle-draggers, that means how many guns per population,...as in this amount of guns for this amount of people.)

So I sat here and crunched the numbers. I'm a little surprised.

1. Kentucky 1.17 people for every gun sold
2. Illinois 1.51 people for every gun sold
3. Utah 2.77 people for every gun sold
4. Indiana 3.74
5. Alabama 5.3
6. Minnesota 6.04
7. Idaho 6.72
8. Montana 6.75
9. Wyoming 6.82
10. Tennessee 7.17
11. Wisconsin 7.5
12 & 13 tied at 8.0 Alaska & West Virginia
14. South Dakota 8.3
15. New Hampshire 9.07
16. Mississippi 9.16
17. Colorado 9.18
18. Pennsylvania 9.23
19. Oregon 9.32
20. Oklahoma 9.51
21. North Dakota 9.67
22. Missouri 9.71
23. Michigan 10.38
24. Arkansas 10.43
25. Washington 10.46
26. South Carolina 10.54
27. Maine 10.55
28. New Mexico 10.86
29. Louisiana 11.6
30. Iowa 12.27
31. Vermont 12.48
32. Florida 12.58
33. Arizona 12.69
34. Kansas 12.76
35. Connecticut 13.0
36. Virginia 13.17
37. Georgia 13.27
38. North Carolina 13.35
39. Ohio 13.84
40. Delaware 14.33
41. Texas 14.71
42. Nevada 16.64
43. Nebraska 21.63
44. Maryland 23.07
45. California 26.79
46. Massachusetts 27.12
47. Rhode Island 28.93
48. New Jersey 41.57
49. New York 43.48

We were not in the top simply because most of the people here already had a gun or maybe two.
I hear some people actually have more guns than that.

More than two? But, you only have two hands. Craziness.

I'm floored that Illinois leads the total. Considering you have to have a FOID card there it makes it more difficult.

I've often wondered about this when I see such lists. I've come to the conclusion that it comes down to the fact that the data used is counts of federal background checks, and we do fewer of these as a percentage of the number of guns sold based on the following:
1) AZ is still relatively free so a significant chunk of the firearms transactions are private party and don't trigger a federal background check.
2) AZ has a very "liberal" (the old meaning - as in freely available) CCW law and CCW carriers can buy from stores without the federal background check. Frankly, being able to buy a gun without the feds listening in is a prime reason to have an AZ CCW - and they are easy to get - so...

Just my guess.
