I used to be able to travel 15 minutes to shoot now its 45 minutes minimum :(

I don’t like shooting in the popular desert spots for all of the reasons listed above. If I’m going to shoot next to people then I’ll just do it at the range and save myself a lot of hassle. Heading down a 4WD trail, setting up camp, and making a weekend out of it pretty much eliminates all of the negatives. It does suck that you can’t escape people with a 20 minute drive out of town anymore, but we’ve found some pretty cool spots and there’s something to be said for being out of cell reception.

One of my favorite things about desert shooting is the treasure hunt.

Last weekend I found over 200 pieces of 9mm brass. I reload and I spend as much time scrounging for brass as I do shooting.

They usually frown on that at the formal ranges.
