Walk-up shooting at Ben Avery?
Has anyone gone there recently without a reservation? I know they are allowing it if there is space, but reservations through the weekend are full.

You can try it if there are cancellations. I have had to book several weeks out.

Yep have to book way ahead.
I have not tried walking in but have seen people hanging out waiting to see if anyone cancels. Thinking it would cut down on the shooting time if one could get in.

I REALLY hope they dont continue with reservations post covid. Its almost impossible to get in now. Its hard scheduling a session weeks in advance unless you are self employed or retired.

They are not going to be changing it anytime soon until the covid issue is dealt with. You are correct Sir, it makes it a real pain in the rear when your schedule is very fluid. It take all the fun out of jumping out of bed on a Sat morning, grabbing the kids and heading to the range on a spontaneous whim to go have so fun.Rpowell600 wrote: ↑October 29th, 2020, 7:56 pm I REALLY hope they dont continue with reservations post covid. I think that's the biggest problem right now... Forests are closed so people don't have any other choice. This week was the first time I've seen it fully booked up so I thought it had something to do with the southwest nationals. I haven't had a problem getting a spot in the past, so I hope this isn't the new norm.

I usually book a pistol steel lane and have no issues getting spots a day or two before (but then again I am off three days during the week....)
I like the reservation system - However, as others have said I think the recent influx and booking weeks out is due to the fire restrictions and the huge quantity of new gun owners.

The way the Covid cases are trending I think it will be a long time before things get back to normal. I hope I'm wrong.vtachrn wrote: ↑October 30th, 2020, 5:04 pmThey are not going to be changing it anytime soon until the covid issue is dealt with. I believe we are all correct. Its all gone to hell in a hand basket and more than likely wont return to "normal" anytime soon. We just gotta stick it out until it does. I have a new rifle I have been itching to sight in but cant find the time to get it done. As vtachrn said, I miss the randomness of going to BA on a moments notice and maybe waiting 20 minutes to get in if you happened to be unlucky that day.samnev wrote: ↑October 31st, 2020, 7:27 amThe way the Covid cases are trending I think it will be a long time before things get back to normal. Can't find guns.
Can't find ammo.
Can't shoot on Nat Forest or BLM due to restrictions in place.

It’s almost like waiting till the last min wasn’t a good idea.Doc Holliday wrote: ↑November 2nd, 2020, 8:21 am Can't find guns.

Re: Walk-up shooting at Ben Avery?
Waiting till the last min for what? For guns and ammo? I have plenty of both. My previous post was referring to potential new gun owners, who want to buy guns and ammo but can't.DevilDocAZ wrote: ↑November 2nd, 2020, 8:51 amIt’s almost like waiting till the last min wasn’t a good idea.Doc Holliday wrote: ↑November 2nd, 2020, 8:21 am Can't find guns.

They now allow walk in -
Walk-in fees for the 300-yard paper tables are $12 per shooter if available.
Walk-in fees for the Frank DeSomma Memorial Range are $14.00. (Rifle range)
Walk-in fees for the 100 & 200-yard paper tables are $9 per shooter if available.

Re: Walk-up shooting at Ben Avery?
They’ve had that all along. You only get a table if someone no-shows for their reservation. By the time they figure out someone’s a no-show you’ve likely lost your first round of shooting.
