The land is BLM, and one of the requirements for the range is that it has to be open to the public for a certain amount of time. Parks & Rec no longer wants to deal with it. MCSO was picked I assume because is a county as well. But no one wants to deal with it.

Re: Jos Foss Range Closing To The Public 7/1/2024
It should be turned into a private club like PRGC. Members pay dues, find a local part time manager. have a gate with a code to enter andopen for a few hours on the weekend for public shooters. Ben Avery USED to be a great range before Maricopa County let the game and fish cnuts take it over.If I lived in the area I would do it in a heartbeat but that is a long haul from north Phoenix.Lobo2087 wrote: ↑August 18th, 2024, 8:40 pm Parks and rec wants nothing to do with shooting. The wrong people are getting voted into office.
County was directed to take it over because 1: law enforcement does use it 2: it is adjacent to the current county range and 3 it is in the county
Mcso did not ask for it
Hopefully something can happen to allow public use

I have recently heard that the Ben Avery Range or Buckeye Police may take it over.

This is a perfect example of how politicians with zero common sense waste our tax money. They literally spent millions developing and building that place out in the middle of nowhere.
And now they don't even have the money to keep it open. Even when it first opened, it didn't have that great of hours. And the idiots went and built the Trap range facing East.
So you can't use it in the morning hours, because you've got the Sun shining directly into your eyes. They could have easily consulted someone BEFORE they built it, on what the yearly operating cost would be.
This reminds me of these people who buy big boats, then complain about what the gas costs to run them. Did these idiots think the place would run itself?

Ah, yep, that's just what they expected. Not "run" but finance itself. Just like BASF is supposed to.

Just a thought..
With the advent of the Taiwan chip plant (taxpayer got sold a bill of crap that no one read the fine print on) and MACK realty / Lennar homes building 8900 homes (HOLA Vista) to build a "city within a city", Ben Avery more than likely is going away. They should very much acquire Joe Foss.
The bigger question to me at least is where are they going to get and sustain the 100yr water requirement for the estimated 50,000 people. While that number should, I say should, include those that are already residents here - I suspect a lot of permanent status and H-1B visas are going to be used.
Just an opine...

The public shouldn't have to "pay rent" on something that they took taxpayer money to build in the first place. I can't help but think this was their intention all along. That range was never operated properly from the get go.WhiteDragon wrote: ↑December 6th, 2024, 10:21 pmAny hopes of opening it to be rented out for classes?
I don't think they ever intended it to be for the public. But they knew that was the only way they could insure public, taxpayer funding to end up getting themselves a nice private range.

The public already had to pay to shoot there and since I run a bussiness, I understand I'd have to pay to rent a classroom/bay to hold my classes like I do at Ben Avery.bill460 wrote: ↑December 7th, 2024, 1:10 amThe public shouldn't have to "pay rent" on something that they took taxpayer money to build in the first place. The Buckeye City Council approved the 20-year management use agreement with Maricopa County Parks and Recreation on Tuesday.
Since the complex’s closure, Maricopa County Parks has worked closely with an independent firm on range remediation, and work is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
The City of Buckeye will staff the complex and determine when and how to open the range. Residents can find updates here.
