Ruger set screws

#1

Post by gunpoorboy1 »

Got a new 10/22 and I'm trying to get the set screws out to mount a scope.

They are in so tight that I'm stripping the heads.

Any suggestion on how to loosen these enough to get them out without messing up the heads?

Heat. Large soldering iron tip on the screws. You can try Kroil or 50/50 Acetone/ATF but heat usually works best. Good luck! Oh, and try tapping on the screws as you turn. HTH

Heat. If you only have a MAP gas torch, heat the receiver from the inside.

Are they really tight, or are you not using the correct driver tip? Not all slot head drivers are created equal.
