Sold a .22 pistol on one of the auctions awhile back. Buyer contacted me. Telling me that his FFL won't give him the pistol. Because federal law requires that that he has to have my DL, with a photo I.D. Is this something new? From the feds? Or just a load of BS.
I've been selling on the auctions since 2002. Never provided a DL with photo previously. Although it has been a number of years, since I personally shipped a handgun. Most of the time I just shipped through a local FFL. Than to all for responding.
DL requirement, for selling on auctions?

The FFL is required by ATF regulations to show where each firearm was acquired...distributor/FFL or person. They required your DL info for their records. Some FFL's are more meticulous in their record keeping that other FFL's. Nothing new.

Yes required
The FFL must know and have record of who it came from
Just giving a name won't do

I've transferred several guns from individuals through my FFL, he requires a copy of the DL of the seller plus the full name of the person he's selling to (me), on a paper sent along with the firearm.

I always state in my ad to verify their FFL will accept shipment from a individual with a copy of my DL. If not they pay my FFL fee. Never had a issue.

My FFL who will receive from a private party requires the seller send D/L.

Re: DL requirement, for selling on auctions?
If I sell a firearm on an internet auction I always have my FFL ship the firearm to the buyers FFL to provide me more legal stand off. But yeah, if you don’t have an FFL send your firearm you need to provide a copy of your DL to the buyers FFL. Now I once sold a rifle to this goofball in Texas sending it thru my FFL to his FFL and the goofball demanded I include a copy of my AZDL in the box which I refused to do because it was unnecessary. When he kept yammering on about it I printed off a copy of Homer Simpson’s DL, handed that to my dealer, and he stapled it to a copy of his FFL when the rifle was sent.
On another note if you sell ammunition on the internet you need to do some research on the laws of the state in which the buyer resides. Fr’instance I once sold a case of ammo to a guy in Illinois and per their laws I needed to get a copy of his Firearms Owners ID and a copy of his DL because only somebody with a FOID could legally receive ammo shipped to them.
