Hmmm, people are shooting it up in Odessa / Midland right now

This is the place to post your news and reviews on anything that's firearm related (rifles, magazines, ammo, barrels, holsters, training classes, optics, etc). Please try to make the reviews as thorough as possible and include pictures, or links to pictures if possible, as well as price(s). Some syndicated content will go here as well.

I fear it will be characterized as "the last straw" illustrating the urgent need for red flag laws, universal background checks, and magazine capacity limits. If he used anything that could remotely be characterized as an "assault weapon," then those too.
A senior law enforcement official briefed on the case and a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety said the shooter had a rifle that may have been a .223 AR-15 style weapon.
Officials were also trying to determine whether the suspect had other weapons on him during the shooting or at his home.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called it a "senseless and cowardly attack."
The attack, the second mass shooting in Texas this month, prompted a round of calls for stricter gun laws from some hopefuls running for the Democratic nomination for president.
U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., said on Twitter, "America is sick of this. We need to act."
Former Congressman Beto O'Rourke of El Paso, Texas, where 22 people were killed in an Aug. 3 attack at a Walmart, tweeted, "More information is forthcoming, but here's what we know: We need to end this epidemic."
U.S. Sen Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said on Twitter that the violence makes her "heartsick." "We've already lost far too many to gun violence-Congress must act now," she said.
Here we go again.

Just kind of weird
No kidding, when I got home last night after being gone all day, there was nothing on the news about it, which struck me as weird too, which prompted me to ask here on the board.

Here is just one thing that is odd, the shooting (or arrest of someone) at the local theater:
KbHMLOm.png
There was an instagram video of the theaters being cleared out and the crowd rushing the parking lot as the police went in.

shows the chase to the theater in a blue pickup.

The last photo is the suspect dead on a street nearby.

I thought Beto was finished already but seems he is all over the news talking about mandatory gun buy backs for AK/AR style guns. Thankfully he has no chance of instituting it but ... will it become the new mantra for Dem wannabes.

Now it’s AR15s should be banned. But, we are going to tell you who the shooter is. We’re gonna tell you he’s a white male mid 30s. But they’re not gonna allow us to look up anything on our own and figure anything out. Don’t show pictures don’t show names then we can say anything we want. We can say he’s a horrible white supremacist that wanted to kill everybody of color. I recall a previous shooting that they originally claimed was a white guy that turned out to be a Muslim. And remember that Zimmerman guy. They kept claiming he was a white guy. But he was Mexican. I just find it pretty strange that the news media is keeping from telling anybody who the shooter was. Something is very fishy with the shooting. Also just come the weekend before Congress goes back in so they can vote on gun control. How convenient

Authorities identified the shooter as Seth Aaron Ator, 36, of Odessa. Online court records show Ator was arrested in 2001 for a misdemeanor offense that would not have prevented him from legally purchasing firearms in Texas, although authorities have not said where Ator got his weapon.

Ator acted alone and federal investigators believe the shooter had no ties to any domestic or international terrorism group, FBI special agent Christopher Combs said.

Now I read that he called the Local PD and he called the FBI ranting on the day of the shooting. His neighbor called police on him earlier and while the details are sketchy the police never visited him because they couldn't locate his shack on the GPS so they stopped looking?!

His bosses called 911 the the day of the shooting.

I know Law enforcement is busy but .. this sounds more like an indictment against the actions by law enforcement than one against gun ownership. Once again ... go hard after the criminals and not inanimate objects. Sounds like they had enough opportunity to get this guy.

So far, we have been amazingly lucky that none of these psychos has bought his gun at a gun show. Fingers crossed again this time. If he bought his rifle at a gun show, then the screams for Universal Background Checks will drown out all reason. I hope he is another one who bought his gun after a background check.
Finally, after years of psychos passing background checks, the libs finally have their poster boy. Turns out this particular psycho (Midland) did not pass the background checks, so bought his gun in a private sale. "Universal background checks," here we go.

New drinking game: take a shot every time you hear the word "loophole."
We'll all die of alcohol poisoning in about 10 minutes.

Why would anyone sell to this guy?

This is the angle needed to push universal background checks

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019 ... e-charges/
The Midland-Odessa shooter who attacked innocents on Saturday reportedly acquired his gun privately in order to avoid drawing attention to himself via a background check.

Gov. Greg Abbott (R) noted Monday that the Midland attacker had “previously failed a gun purchase background check in Texas.” At that time no one knew the means by which the gun used in Midland was acquired, but on Tuesday CBS DFW reported the shooter acquired the gun privately “to evade the background check where he would have been flagged.”
The person who sold the gun to the Midland shooter may face “federal charges.” Such charges would depend on what the seller knew about the shooter, including knowledge of things such as the shooter’s mental condition and the fact the shooter had already failed a background check.

I am sure all the shootings in Chicago are done by upstanding citizens that went through background checks to get their firearms.
Nothing is said about them and they shoot more people every year than all the so called mass shootings combined.
