What does Fish and Game do with a large predator such as a 300 lb black bear when it's been killed in a defensive act ? Is it held as evidence when a fatality is involved ?..
Of course there's no case pending involving any charges ( but in California, there might be !) but what if the bear has actually consumed the flesh of the victim ?
Yeah I know it's a morbid curiosity...

Calif would probably hold it the same as shooting a retreating perp in the back, as the victim was already dead.
IOW, murder of some degree. Species no matter.

I was involved in the attempted rescue of a cow elk and calf that were stranded a few years ago. Game and Fish came to get the animals, which did not survive. They donated the carcasses to Bearizona to feed the animals there.

Several years ago I shot a javelina that bit me.
The Game and Fish picked it up and had it checked for rabies.
A couple months later they left me a message with the results.
The test came back negative , of course I already had that one figured out by then.

Would be interested to hear from you how that bite went down. Were you walking a dog by chance?..
I'm out every day with mine and while I haven't yet had a close encounter I am prepared to defend him if one comes at him...they do consider dogs same as their natural enemy, the coyote.

I was trying to break up a fight between my dog and a javelina.
