So, marines missed the M-9? And the mystery remains why they have the sobriquet of “jarhead”…..

We had both on the Lincoln. Since it started on the East coast the Plankowner MARDET was already carrying M-9's. Us West Coast MARDET was still 1911 when we came aboard. M-9's gave higher scores on qual days and twice as many rounds. Drawback was the 'Beretta Bite'. 1911's definitely will last forever and make bigger holes. I prefer the 1911 over the M-9

I've never shiied away from stating my feelings for my M9's.

I carry one each day as a back up/car gun, and carried one on every deployment I did. I've beat them up pretty good and have never had a problem with them: clean or dirty, brass or steel ammo, factory or aftermarket mags, doesn't matter, they have never let me down.

Combine that with the muscle memory of several overseas deployments, and I will never talk badly about an M9, nor will I give mine up.

Everyone has their own preferences, but this is mine.

Im with you here. Most of the problems we saw were due to old worn out guns that weren’t taken care of. I always said after I retired I was going to get me one that was new and wasn’t an issued gun. Yet two years into retirement and here I am….still haven’t done it. Maybe it’s finally time.

My first centerfire was an 96FS. I sold it to get a 1911 (which I was lucky enough to have Hobbs build out for me), but I’ve always been a Beretta 92 guy. At one point I had nearly a dozen different models of the platform. I’m now down to only one at present, an LTT RDO Centurion. I do have a spare slide though, and am seriously thinking of sourcing another frame so I have a second one. With modern G10 grips and the G models, they’re phenomenal pistols. Still heavier than a Glock, sure. But with a good trigger, they’re easy to shoot and incredibly accurate, IMO. I dig ‘em!

I always felt the M9 got a bad rap. Honestly, too nice a gun to be issued for military abuse. I get a lot of vets who come in looking for one and they are surprised to see how nice a brand new one is, especially the Inox and RDO.

Aside from one schitty magazine production run by one vendor and a couple of slide breakages in the 80's,...the M9 was almost always functional and reliable.

If the Pentagon had replaced it with the Glock, I don't think there would be nearly as many people biching and moaning.
