1. Don't use a Blackhawk Serpa Holster....widely banned in MIL/LEO communities.
2. Don't put a gun in your purse like it's a tube of lip gloss. Lots of little things that could get trapped inside the trigger area, especially if you have the gun in a Serpa.

Didn’t a DPS officer here have a similar incident a few years back?

It is problem with striker fired pistols regardless of brand.
Google "Glock leg"
DA/SA is still the safest and best design.

It is a shooter safety issue, not a design issue.

It is a design that is prone to malfunction and cause injury. DA/SA don't have the same rate of ND/AD occurrences. It is not too dissimilar to a hunter using a target trigger on a rifle while wearing heavy winter gloves. Common sense says that is prone to malfunction. That is why hunting rifles have 3 or 4 lb minimum trigger pulls.
It's design is one reason why the IDF instituted and teach "Israeli carry", none in the chamber, rack the slide while drawing your weapon.
