Hero kills bad guy, Cop shoots hero.
Bad guy ambushes a cop and murders him.
Good guy kills bad guy.
First cop on scene shoots good guy without knowing who, what, when or where. Typical case of incompetence followed by attempt to cover up by saying the gunman killed the good guy.
Story later changed to say the good guy picked up the bad guy's AR15 and that is why cop shot him. That might be believable if they hadn't lied and first said bad guy shot the hero. Sounds like a new lie to cover up another bad cop's trigger happy response.

Yep.
If I can't immediately take out an active shooter im leaving. My first priority is the safety my family who is with me.
If I am able to stop an active shooter, I am setting any guns I have down and placing my hands on my head and will wait for any instructions given to me.
There's too many variables and chance for human error. Beyond tragic.

Also to add if my spouse is with me they will be giving the best and most accurate description of me as possible to the 911 dispatcher.

Be better to just shoot the bad guy and leave, period. No sense standing around waiting for the cops to shoot you as well.

Be just like how cops don't go into certain parts of cities and what has been happening in certain villages of mexico, people started putting down rabid actors.

My 2 cents on him picking up the rifle and worth less....
If you are heroic enough to leap at a active shooter who has a rifle with your concealed carry piece then you are heroic enough to be ready for more assailants.
What if there was more than one shooter. Happens.
Wouldn't you want to switch from your S&W Shield or equivalent and pick up the now available rifle still not knowing if he is solo or there are 2 or 3 shooters. I would rather engage with the rifle.
Not bad math to put your concealed carry piece in it's holster and pick up the now available rifle just laying there.
Now where he may have messed up is, once he heard the sirens close by he had to turn the scene over and should have dropped the rifle and got down on his knees or held the rifle over his head.
Not being there ... I have to just assume he was pumped full of adrenaline and was still looking for other shooters and probably didn't even here the police coming.
Really is a shame but I do see why he may have picked up the AR
