The backstory is that the mother either cut in line or tried to cut and flipped off the driver. So he retaliated by shooting at her car.
He wasn't trying to kill the kid, but that does not change the stupidity and recklessness of his actions.

Lesson of the day. When you have your kids in the car, drive nice and don't flip off other drivers.
You never know who is stupid enough or crazy enough to ruin your life.

I can't begin to imagine the mother's feelings of guilt for her actions.....
