For that eventuality, I put a mark on them as do my shooting buddies, but we don't number them.

I don't number them. That's too impersonal. I give them names.
Lately, Billy has been acting up, so I'm giving him a time out.

Did you just assume your mag's gender?

When I suspect a magazine of being defective, I put a piece of masking tape over the feed lips, and throw it into the range bag until I can inspect it later. (I carry the masking tape to tape targets, just in case I actually ever make a hole in one.)

If a mag don't work at the ranged it's trashed. Also I have learned to stay away from cheap aftermarket mags for this very reason.

I number them all and the mags I use at a match I put my initials on. Just easier to keep track of. Some I also mark for loading with rifle match ammo verse just practice ammo.

lew wrote: August 7th, 2018, 10:21 am Never had a need to number them. If a magazine gave me a problem, it was immediately set aside and segregated from the rest of the herd until repaired or removed from service. Not numbering them also forces me to keep better track of them at all times.
I'm with this guy ^^^ The failures go in a pile, they are examined for defects, cleaned, and marked. They are then tried again. After second failure, the are disposed of. Simple, clean and no third chances
